Dave is the main character of the 'Abduction' series. Space escape retroactively incorporated the show Dorm Life into the CJCU canon by using a shot of Chris’ character from the show (named Mike Sanders) in a flashback sequence of Dave’s past.
Biography
Dave went to college under the name Mike Sanders and had some wacky adventures living in a college dorm. (Dorm Life) He bought a truck to help Gorbash smuggle pipe cleaners back to his planet. (Aliens Among Us)
Many years later, now going by the name Dave, he encountered a troll guarding the Barleydale Bridge. (Trolls these days)
After he was abducted by an alien, he recorded a video recounting his experience (Undeniable proof of my alien abduction), which prompted Agent 17's mission to wipe Dave's mind (Mind wipe). After failing to wipe his memory, Dave was teleported to the alien's spaceship, but escaped with the help of another alien and a broom shaped alien (Space escape).
At some point, he witnessed the Zanderfloos' murder and was placed in witness protection, moving from one alien society to another (Spacecode 96451 (or something)). He suggested to his college roommate, Chris, to visit an alien planet and interview Gorbash. (Aliens Among Us)
Theories
Dave is Mike
In all of the character’s appearances in C&J sketches up until Space escape, the character was known as Dave. The puzzle of his name sprouts from the inclusion of a shot of Chris’ character from the series Dorm Life in the flashback sequence in Space escape, strongly suggesting that the character Mike Sanders from Dorm Life and Dave from the Abduction series are one and the same (Dave from Trolls these days is also shown in the flashback). Additionally, in Mind wipe, Agent 17 attempts to deceive Dave by pretending that he is Dave’s “buddy who used to prank [him] all the time in college.” Dave responds, “You’re not Josh!” In Dorm Life, Josh is a college friend of Mike known for pulling pranks. Integrating Mike into Dave seems incompatible when considering Dave’s full name is given in the beginning of Mind wipe (the sequel to Abduction) as David Randall Peterson, and yet we see it in the flashback.
While the reason why Dave has two names is as yet unexplained, there is credence to the character acknowledging both names if one accepts him to be the same character Chris plays in the Podcast Pilots episode Spacecode 96451 (or something). In this episode, Chris’ character, a man in witness protection on an alien planet, first identifies himself as ‘Mike’ while recording a voice message to send to Cindy; this name is kept in secret. Publicly, his name is David, at least while in witness protection. The alien hosting him frequently mispronounces ‘David’ as ‘Gravy’, before correcting himself, and acknowledges that the ‘Mike’ identity is a secret. In reference to keeping his identity a secret, Dave says, “… David or Mike, Mike being obviously my given middle name.” (Spacecode 96451 (or something), 50:57) And so, we have a character who goes by both of the names ‘Dave’ and ‘Mike’, and interacts with aliens.
In another podcast episode, Aliens Among Us, Chris interviews an alien named Gorbash. It is explained that the interview was setup by a mutual friend, Chris’ college roommate named Mike, who knew Gorbash and gave Chris the suggestion of visiting Gorbash’s planet. The full name of Chris’ roommate is said aloud only by Gorbash, and is given as ‘Mike Skeezy’ (Aliens Among Us, 54:36). As heard in Spacecode 96451 (or something), aliens commonly mispronounce human names (‘David’ as ‘Gravy’). ‘Mike Skeezy’ isn’t too far off from ‘Mike Sanders’.
